Guardian

Come, child of earth, bear witness onto me.
For I am the aged one, elder guardian of thee. When you are lonely,
nowhere to belong, come seek me—the Patient; the Strong. Grounded
are my roots so here I’ll always be. Listen for the notes the wind and I shall sing.
Climb my branches, dear child, so that you may see far and wide; your surroundings,
your dreams, where your desires reside. Meditate your wisdom with
me within my shade. For under
admonition a successful
future can be made.
Respect the world
about you, for I
am not the only
being who provides
shelter, wisdom, and food that
you or your kin will be seeing. Remember—for when
you leave—part               of this world you’ll         forever be. Remember
kindness, strength,                     and humility                   given to you by this
old tree.

A Likely Excuse

An elephant woke me up; it made me sopping wet.
A monkey hid my phone.
A dog ate my backpack.
An eagle stole my jacket; I was so cold.

A cat stole my sock
and a goat ate my shoe.
A raven stole my keys.
What was I supposed to do?

A dinosaur ate my tires.
It really wasn’t cool.
I had to find the bus stop
so that I could get to school.

It’s not my fault
that I forgot my homework on my desk.
I know it sounds so crazy, but
all this happened, more or less.

Night in Vegas Valley

A bustling city beset by mountains
so bright with stars lining each street and structure
that visitors are distracted from nature’s originals.
The city of sins that does not sleep.
